Easy access to East Coast markets prompted this growing distributor of flooring products to choose the Research Triangle Region for its new operation.
A subsidiary of the nation's largest wholesaler of flooring products has chosen Vance County in the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina for its newest distribution center.
SPI Floors LLC supplies carpet, wood, laminate, vinyl, ceramic and rubber flooring to retailers from Texas to Maine.
The company's new 30,000-square-foot center will employ 30 people.
The 56-year-old company that became SPI Floors is headquartered in Elkridge, Md., and in 2006, it merged into Hoboken Floors. The combined company offers superior product offerings, logistics, expertise and experience and aims to be a billion-dollar enterprise in 2007.
"I'm delighted that SPI Floors is locating their new regional distribution center in Vance County," said Benny Finch, executive director of the Vance County Economic Development Commission. "Our excellent transportation system provides easy, direct access to their customers."
Indeed, that logistical advantage "was the factor," said Bruce Boulden, SPI's vice president of sales for the Henderson region. "We service Virginia up to Richmond and all of North Carolina, and this is just about dead center of that geography. The ease of access to interstates 85, 95 and 40 is why we're here."
The presence of Interstate 85, U.S. 1, and U.S. 158 in Vance County and other counties across the Research Triangle Region is a major draw for distribution operations because it gives companies fast routes to their major markets. The region's central East Coast location puts it within 700-miles of more than 170 million U.S. and Canadian consumers.
The region's outlying counties offer reasonably priced land and commercial buildings, a productive labor force, free customized training programs for companies, low energy and construction costs and a business-friendly government.
