North Carolina State University
North Carolina State University, the largest of the universities in the University of North Carolina system, is a national center for research, teaching and outreach in the sciences and technologies, in the humanities and social sciences, and in a wide range of professional programs.

Founded March 7, 1887, by the North Carolina General Assembly, N.C. State shares the distinctive character of land-grant universities nationwide: broad academic offerings, national and international partnerships, and large-scale public services, extensions and research activities.

Located in the state's capital of Raleigh, the university is organized into ten colleges along with the Graduate School and the Division of Undergraduate Studies. The ten colleges include: Agriculture and Life Sciences, Design, Education, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management, Natural Resources, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Textiles and Veterinary Medicine. Baccalaureate degrees are offered in 98 fields, master's degrees in 92 fields, and doctoral degrees in 51 fields.

N.C. State University's faculty of 1,551 educates a total enrollment of 28,619, including an in-coming freshman class of 4,971 students. Of the total enrollment, 43% are female, 57% are male, with a rate of 87% coming within North Carolina and 13% out-of-state.

N.C. State's outreach and extension programs reach into every part of the state and cover everything from the more traditional engineering, agriculture and textiles extension programs to veterinary students helping injured animals or faculty members preserving the dialect of the Ocracoke Islanders.

Centennial Campus is North Carolina State University's vision of the campus of the future-a "technopolis" of university, corporate and government R&D facilities and business incubators, with an exciting town center, executive conference center and hotel, upscale housing, and recreational amenities. This 1,334-acre site, adjacent to N.C. State's main campus, is quickly emerging as the Research Triangle Region's fastest growing development. There's no other campus or research park like it in the country. In the past ten years, there has been over $340 million invested in sixteen buildings, new streets, courtyards and bridges, and high-tech infrastructure. By the time the campus is complete, public and private investment will grow to over $2 billion. Today, the first three multidisciplinary R&D neighborhoods are already alive with activity including advanced materials, advanced communication technologies and biosciences and biotechnology.
