Dillon's Aviation Lands at Raleigh Executive JetPort
September 12, 2012
Sanford, N.C. — Dillon's Aviation Inc., a family-owned company offering flight training and aircraft rentals, has moved its central North Carolina operation to Raleigh Exec, the corporate and general-aviation airport in northwestern Lee County.
The company based in Greenville formerly operated its second location in Fayetteville, but moved this summer for a chance to expand. Shannon Lyman, manager of the local site, says Dillon's Aviation now operates from a leased hangar and has better access to the Research Triangle. Raleigh Exec is about 15 miles from I-540, a segment of Raleigh's new outer loop scheduled to open in January.
"This was really a chance to have our own facility," says Lyman. "Before, we had a small classroom, but now we have an office area, conference room and more space for our aircraft. Being close to Raleigh, Cary and Apex was appealing as well."
Dillon's Aviation offers training toward the private pilot, instrument and commercial certificates. Lyman says the company is particularly attractive for veterans, since instructional programs are approved to receive funding through VA benefits and the North Carolina Tuition Assistance Program.
Its aircraft include late-model Diamond DA20s, DA40s and the Beechcraft Sierra. Many are outfitted with glass cockpits and the latest equipment.
Dillon's Aviation was established more than three decades ago by current owner Stuart Dillon and his father, and is based at the Pitt-Greenville Regional Airport, where the company also operates a full-service maintenance shop.
Lyman says that family connection is one reason for the company's success. "We're a small company, so we take care of our customers and treat them like part of the family," she says. "We've been around for a long time and have a good record in our business."
