Durham Chamber Launching Event to Bring More Entrepreneurs to Durham

Durham, NC -- This spring, the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce and its economic development partners will launch a bold initiative aimed at attracting and scaling more startups in downtown Durham. The event, called the Startup Stampede, will bring about 15 rising companies to a downtown storefront free of charge for 60 days.

The Chamber is working with Downtown Durham, Inc., Bull City Forward, CED, LaunchBox, Joystick Labs, Self-Help, the City of Durham and Durham County, and will give these startups a chance to launch alongside other talented entrepreneurs while experiencing the extensive network of support organizations in Durham.

The Stampede is leveraging the monumental surge of startups in downtown Durham that has occurred over the past three years. The Chamber now estimates that in downtown alone, there are more than 50 startups employing over 500 people.

Entrepreneurs participating in the Stampede will get to join this growing entrepreneurial community and gain exposure and access to organizations such as CED, the Chamber, LaunchBox, Bull City Forward and several others than can help companies scale and grow in Durham. Our goal is to give these entrepreneurs an unparalleled, intensive experience of Durham that will cause them to want to put down roots in the Bull City.

We are targeting entrepreneurs currently launching a company from home, or university entrepreneurs who have heard from friends and colleagues about the resurgence of Durham and want to see what the excitement is about. Participating entrepreneurs will experience the restaurants, coffee shops, and entertainment venues that make Durham a great place to launch a company and have fun while doing it.

More details are to follow regarding the location of the Stampede but we encourage you to direct entrepreneurs interested in participating to Adam Klein, the Chamber’s Director of Strategic Initiatives at aklein@durhamchamber.org.
