“This new investment in our North Carolina operations will allow us to better supply our world-leading driveline systems and will allow us to further strengthen our customer base. This expansion is the next stage of our growth in North Carolina.”
Max Owen, President GKN Driveline Americas.
When GKN Driveline chose Roxboro, North Carolina for a $24.1 million project that would create 131 new jobs, it knew exactly what it was getting. That’s because the manufacturer of automotive driveline components already had a sizeable plant in the town of 8,400 people.
“GKN Driveline has 57 facilities in 23 countries, and they chose Roxboro, NC,” said Stuart Gilbert, Economic Development Director for Person County. “Saying that we’re proud of this announcement is a bit of an understatement.”
The Roxboro expansion will increase manufacturing floor space to allow for additional business volume. The project also includes material flow improvements and the addition of new manufacturing equipment. New jobs created will include quality engineers, supply chain, supplier development, production support, manufacturing engineering and facilitators. According to Chet Roslanowick, Plant Manager for GKN Driveline – Roxboro “The hiring has already commenced.”
Even though most people don’t know what GKN Driveline makes, just about all of us come into contact with the company’s products on a daily basis. Its automotive components include halfshafts, propshafts, differentials, and traction control devices, found in virtually every front wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicle on the road.
By all accounts, the auto industry has come roaring back after a few rough years. This growth means increased opportunities for trusted suppliers like GKN Driveline. And that means new employment opportunities for residents of communities like Roxboro.
“This new investment in our North Carolina operations will allow us to better supply our world-leading driveline systems and will allow us to further strengthen our customer base. This expansion is the next stage of our growth in North Carolina,” said Max Owen, President GKN Driveline Americas.
All combined, GKN Driveline employs more than 950 people in Person, Alamance and Lee Counties. The GKN Group employs an additional 557 employees in Catawba County. To learn more about the company, visit www.gkn.com/driveline.
