(March 7, 2013) -- Today, Governor Pat McCrory announced that MetLife, Inc., a leading global life insurance and employee benefits company, intends to create 2,600 jobs in Charlotte and Cary by the end of 2015. The company expects to invest, or cause to be invested, $125.5 million into its new Mecklenburg and Wake County campuses.

The company will create a new Global Technology & Operations Center in Cary. The information technology positions in Cary will be focused on delivering global solutions to support MetLife and the customers it serves. MetLife will develop a new Class A office complex which will be located in Cary.
“MetLife will have a tremendous, positive impact on Cary, Wake County, and the entire Research Triangle,” said Joe Bryan, Chairman, Wake County Commissioners. Today’s announcement is the result of the strong partnership between Wake County Government, Wake County Economic Development, the Town of Cary, Cary Chamber of Commerce, Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, N.C. Department of Commerce, Wake Tech Community College, North Carolina State University, Capital Area Workforce Development Board, Duke Energy, and the Research Triangle Regional Partnership.
The long term growth potential for the company and the community is very strong. Cary, Wake County, and the Research Triangle have the current talent and continue to attract the type of top talent the company needs to thrive. “In addition, the company will be part of our community’s technology cluster and in particular our shared services operation centers that already include international giants like Credit Suisse, Fidelity, and Deutsche Bank,” noted Bryan.
“We’re proud that a strong corporate partner like MetLife has decided to invest in North Carolina,” said Governor McCrory. “These jobs will complement our financial services sector in Charlotte and our high-tech hub in Wake County, two distinct sectors we want to expand.” In total, MetLife will be creating over 2,600 full time highly skilled and educated associates in North Carolina. Today’s announcement by the Governor is the largest jobs announcement in recent North Carolina history.
