USA Today Lauds RDU Design
RDU International Airport, NC -- An article on airport design in the March 3 edition of USA Today praises the design of Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s new Terminal 2, while a Feb. 28 story names the terminal’s 42nd St. Oyster Bar among the Top 10 airport restaurants in the country.
The March 3 story describes Terminal 2 as evoking the rolling Piedmont landscape.
“The terminal's wooden ceiling beams are a tribute to the area’s legacy of furniture manufacturing. Stainless steel and large windows are meant to reflect progress and the Research Triangle's technology orientation,” the story says.
The full story can be found online. (Airports embrace local design, dining and retail, USA Today, March 3).
“Passengers tend to get a picture fairly quickly that there’s a story being told,” airport director John Brantley says. “Folks have associated us with The Andy Griffith (show) for so many years. We’re no longer Mayberry. This terminal reflects that the region has grown up.”
The travel section article reports on the results of a Frommer’s Travel Guide links of top airport restaurants, which picked two at New York airports and others at airports in Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Seattle and RDU.
“We've picked places that serve food you'd eat even if you weren't trapped," says Jason Clampet, senior online editor for Frommers.com.
