Wake County precision marketing targets next-generation textile opportunities While traditional woven textile jobs decline, opportunities abound for non-wovens, from smart fabrics to artificial skin. Wake County developers are harvesting leads from research at NC State to attract these kinds of jobs. Web site connects Moore County angels and entrepreneurs Angel investors in Moore County now have a simple and accessible tool – a new Web site, www.angelsformoore.org – to help bring them together with local entrepreneurs and opportunity. Region's key strengths fuel company growth The Research Triangle Region's greatest strengths for new venture creation are its abundance of research universities, the quality of entrepreneurial support organizations and the availability of qualified technical and non-technical workers, according to a new survey by the Center for Entrepreneurial Development. Conference helps entrepreneurs turn ideas into jobs Budding entrepreneurs – from university researchers to "garage entrepreneurs" – are invited to an Oct. 30 conference on launching new ventures, hosted by the Center for Entrepreneurial Development and Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.
Triangle's SAS named world's top company for data mining In another affirmation of the Research Triangle Region's world-class informatics cluster, two new reports name Cary-based SAS as dominant in data mining and data warehousing access. The firm captured 35 percent of the $500 million world market in 2003, according to the IDC research firm. Greater Triangle Regional Council taps growth experts as leaders Attorney Mack Paul, a leading expert in land use planning and corporate relocation, and Roger Perry, president of the company that has developed the most residential land in North Carolina, assume top roles at the regional strategic visioning organization.

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies plans a new $687,500 facility in Durham County that will create 20 new jobs. It is among $448 million in investment and 1,216 new jobs announced in the region during the first quarter of 2004. Regional
Accolades Economic developers travel to Chicago in September to the International Manufacturing Technology Show, part of an ongoing schedule of trips designed to recruit investment to the region. Executives, professionals and academics in the life sciences are invited to the Biotechnology Forum Sept. 20, 5-8 p.m., at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. It is one of several September events planned for regional business people and entrepreneurs. |
