Quality Growth

The Research Triangle Region is projected to grow by 1.2 million people and 700,000 jobs over the next 20 years.

Accommodating that growth as a region is the primary focus of a regional quality-growth initiative led by Triangle Tomorrow, the Research Triangle Regional Partnership's quality-of-life program, and the Triangle District Council of the Urban Land Institute.

The initiative seeks to implement the recommendations of a broad-based group of stakeholders from the 15-county region developed at a February 2009 visioning exercise and summit, called Realty Check.

Task Forces Mobilize for Quality Growth

Three task forces focus on identifying issues of regional interest in the areas of Transit, Green Space and Vibrant Centers, and engaging organizations working in those areas to collaborate to achieve quality growth in those areas.

A fourth task force is seeking endorsement of the three guiding principles from all city and county governments in the 15 counties. It is also leading a communications and messaging effort to raise awareness of the importance of quality growth and mobilize citizenry to support its guiding principles.

"Those regions with a clear plan for how they are going to grow, a plan that has broad-based support from the private, nonprofit and public sectors, will have a key competitive advantage."
