The Shape of Things to Come
The Shape of Things to Come™ is a five-year plan to promote economic growth in the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina, create 100,000 jobs and boost employment in all 13 counties in the region.
The Research Triangle Regional Partnership developed the strategy in partnership with a steering committee of regional top executives, partner organizations and policy experts to guide the region's economic-development efforts from 2009-2014.
The new strategy builds on the success of the region’s award-winning Staying on Top: Winning the Job Wars of the Future plan, implemented during 2004-2009. It calls or three key strategies to continue growing the region's knowledge-based economy:
-
Expand our world-leading life sciences and technology clusters and selected new, emerging clusters.
-
Enhance and preserve the superior quality of life and competitive business climate that enables us to attract the talent and investment we need to continue to be successful.
-
Engage regional leaders and partner organizations in ensuring our economic competitiveness.
Regional economic developers and the N.C. Chamber of Commerce collaboration to expand the economy and create jobs through a balanced approach: recruiting new companies, supporting the existing company growth, and encouraging startup of new companies.
The region's economic strategy focuses on promoting growth in these orld-leading life sciences and technology clusters which the region has a competitive advantage or the potential to lead:
