PROJECT FRONT LINE
Project Front Line is providing a lifeline to essential workers through free hot meals and grocery essentials.
Old North State Catering Kitchen, a wedding catering service based in Fuquay-Varina, is spearheading an initiative to show health care workers, police officers and firefighters that the community cares.
Last week, the initiative provided 610 free meals. The target for next week is 1,000 meals, said Chris Wrenn, the owner and chef at Old North State Catering Kitchen.
He says most of the meals are going to staff at Harnett Health, including doctors, nurses, security and administrative staff. “Food will be delivered and handled under strict guidelines,” the website says.
Some of the meals included barbecue chicken, six-cheese macaroni and cheese, dinner rolls from Stick Boy Bakery, pulled pork, baked beans and baked ziti.
“It’s 100% donations,” Wrenn said. “We put in $2,000 to get started. John Hiester Chevrolet also contributed.”
The initiative has received $10,000 from individuals, through Venmo and Pay Pal and through a Facebook fundraiser, Wrenn said. The website was set up with with the help of Dani Almeyda, a fitness coach and owner of Original Strength.
The initiative also allows people to buy toiletries and other everyday essential items to send to people working in hospitals through an Amazon wish list.
“There are heroes out there on the front lines and they’re here to protect us,” Wrenn said. “And we’re here to appreciate them.”
