Kolmion työmarkkinat pysyvät vahvoina; raportin mukaan life science -yritykset palkkaavat jatkuvasti

The volatility in the labor market of the Triangle is back, but this time in an upwards direction on many of the national job boards analyzed weekly for the WRAL TechWire Jobs Report.  Still, the job openings data isn’t moving uniformly in one direction.

Triangle job postings increased on 14 of the 20 national job boards tracked by WRAL TechWire for the report since last week, with gains averaging between 0.41% and 36.78%, but decreased on six of the job boards tracked, with decreases as high as 15.26% week-over-week.

Meanwhile, compared to last month, only half of the 20 national job boards tracked show an increase in the number of job openings, while 9 have decreased, and one shows no change since a month ago.

Yet there is one sector of the Triangle’s economy that is playing a role in continued job opening and employment growth: the region’s life science sector.

What’s happening with job openings

raportti released on Monday that tracks the sector’s performance nationally during the second quarter found that life science employers posted 622,087 job advertisements in the three month period.

That’s up by about 27% from the prior year, and up from the first quarter as well, when there were nearly 541,000 job postings in the sector nationally, the report from GeneCoda found.

And there’s reason to believe the Triangle is actually outperforming the nation, said Don Alexander, CPC, the author of the report and the president and managing director of Raleigh-based GeneCoda.

"Arvelen, että Pohjois-Carolinan markkinat pärjäävät paremmin kuin monet täällä sijaitsevien yritysten monimuotoisuuden vuoksi ja että tämä alue houkuttelee vahvasti myymälän perustamista tai jopa etätyöntekijöiden palkkaamista", Alexander kertoo WRAL TechWirelle.

Others remain bullish on the region’s labor market, even as there have been an increasing number of layoffs throughout this summer.

“The Triangle, I am not seeing any slowdown whatsoever, even with a possible pending recession,” said Christiaan Heijmen, managing partner of Focus Search Partners, a Vaco company, in an interview with WRAL TechWire last week.  “Every month, I get more inquiries than the month before—every month.”

Note: WRAL TechWire’s viikoittainen työraportti compiles the latest information from the region’s top job boards, offering a breakdown of how many jobs are posted, which companies are hiring, and what positions are most in-demand. Here’s more from WRAL TechWire on the latest changes in the labor markets in our local economy.  Below, we’ve gathered the latest upcoming job fairs, student-centric resources, and a list of Twitter accounts that track local job openings.  Here’s what’s new since the last WRAL TechWire Jobs Report.

Job openings in the Triangle from national job boards

Every week, we track the total number of Triangle-area positions posted on major job websites.  Here is the latest data, as of 12 PM on Monday, August 8.  We use the shorthand abbreviation “MoM” for month-over-month and “YTD” for year-to-date in our report.  This week’s report includes tracking the month-over-month gains as a percentage increase or decrease in the total number of postings measured by WRAL TechWire.

  • Raleigh: 39,283(⇓-2,101 or 5.08% MoM; ⇑+6,061 YTD)
  • Durham:  17,695 (⇑+2,043 or 13.05% MoM; ⇑+2,837 YTD)
  • Chapel Hill: 975 (⇑+29 or 3.07% MoM; ⇓-2,669 YTD)
  • Johnston County: 401 (no change MoM; ⇑+22 YTD)*

Editor’s Notes: The month-over-month totals are compared to our July 12 report, and the year-to-date totals compare to our Jan. 3 report.  **We’ve also updated the methodology for which we track job openings on LinkedIn based anywhere in Johnston County, as of July 2022, so won’t use YTD data.  *And, the year-to-date data for Johnston County tracks from Jan. 31, 2022, when we began to track job postings in the county for the WRAL TechWire Jobs Report.
