Six of the biggest tech contributors to North Carolina’s economy – Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Facebook, Lenovo, Oracle – moved higher on the Fortune Global 500 List with Lenovo jumping 65 spots after a strong 2021 fiscal year led by its continuing leadership in PC sales.

“Strong performance and growth over the past year have led to another milestone for Lenovo,” wrote Lenovo chair and CEO Yang Yuanqing in a blog post.

“I’m proud to see our rise to a record high #159 (up 65 spots) on the Fortune Magazine Global 500 list! Thank you to the Lenovo team, our customers, and partners!”

Rankings are based on total revenues.

Apple climbed six spots to No. 6.

Alphabet – the parent of Google – improved eight spots to No. 21.

Microsoft advanced 14 spots to No. 33.

Facebook soared 58 spots top place No. 86.

And Oracle climbed 10 spots to No. 304.

In life sciences, Thermo Fisher which is rapidly expanding its life science footprint, climbed 118 spots to No. 380.

However, other big tech firms with strong North Carolian ties fell.

IBM dropped three spots to No. 121.

And Cisco slipped 10 spots to No. 221.

Honeywell slipped 27 spots to No. 374.

After achieving historical 2021 fiscal year results, Lenovo has been ranked #159 on FORTUNE’s annual Global 500 List and in the top 20 (#15) of all Technology sector companies cited in the List. Lenovo jumped 65 spots this year to an all-time high ranking due to its record financial results,  which saw the Group surge past the US$60 billion revenue mark, and adding more than US$10 billion from the previous fiscal year as all core businesses grew.
