RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Internet giant Amazon says it will hire another 75,000 people to help meet demand at the ecommerce giant as demand continues to grow due to the COVID-19 virus.
Some jobs are already open in North Carolina with a few new postings as of Monday morning.
The company notes:
- Amazon employees in North Carolina now earn up to $18/hr
- That includes an additional $2 an hour through April
- Workers can start as soon as 7 days
- No resume or previous work experience required
Overall, Amazon right now has 77 open positions at its properties across the state which include a massive warehouse in Garner and a distribution facility in Durham, according to jobs site Indeed.
In fact, demand is so great for food deliveries that Amazon is putting new customers on a waiting list.
The new hires come after Amazon said it had already filled 100,000 additional positions since the outbreak of the virus.
“Today, we are proud to announce that our original 100,000 jobs pledge is filled and those new employees are working at sites across the U.S. helping to serve customers,” Amazon announced.
“We continue to see increased demand as our teams support their communities, and are going to continue to hire, creating an additional 75,000 jobs to help serve customers during this unprecedented time.”
Amazon has faced criticsm from some workers for what they say are lack of adequate safety measures at various facilities.
“We also continue to invest in pay increases and previously expected to spend $350 million to increase wages during this unprecedented time—we now expect that to be over $500 million,” Aazmon added.
