Google Fiber expanding in NC markets, too

Date Published:

Today, Google Fiber announced that it would expand to five additional states.  And, a spokesperson for Google Fiber told WRAL TechWire that the organization will continue to invest in North Carolina.

Here’s the latest, according to the spokesperson.

Triangle-area customers can now sign up for Fiber service at speeds of 1-gigabyte or 2-gigabytes in Morrisville, Carrboro, Cary, Chapel Hill, parts of both Raleigh and Durham, the spokesperson noted.

“We have just begun construction in Apex,” the spokesperson told WRAL TechWire.

In the Charlotte metropolitan statistical area, Google Fiber is available to customers in Matthews, as well as parts of Charlotte and Concord, the spokesperson noted.

Construction, expansion continues

And in all of these municipalities, Google Fiber continues to expand its network and construction is underway, the spokesperson said.

“We’ll have additional North Carolina communities announced before the end of the year,” the spokesperson confirmed to WRAL TechWire.  With that increasing footprint, the organization is anticipating it will add workers, as well.  Currently, the Google Fiber careers webpage lists seven open roles based in the Durham office, but the spokesperson added that there are both local and corporate roles available in North Carolina.
