How to Keep Your ‘World Cup Fever’ Alive in the Research Triangle Region

North Carolina FC (men’s) and the North Carolina Courage (women’s) team seasons are in full swing so don’t fret falling off your “World Cup high.” Come out to the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary to cheer on our hometown soccer teams.
North Carolina FC and NC Courage
North Carolina FC is currently competing in the United Soccer League (USL), although the club has submitted a formal bid to be an expansion team in Major League Soccer (MLS). With a rich history as the Carolina Railhawks, the now turned “NCFC” club has a slew of home games remaining on their schedule. Heading over Sahlen’s Stadium in WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary is the perfect way to keep the World Cup fever alive. NCFC Schedule
The North Carolina Courage will also help scratch your soccer itch until next summer’s Women’s World Cup. The NC Courage roster has a number of players that could be representing their county this time next year in France. Carolina Hurricanes
One of the region’s five professional sports team, the Carolina Hurricanes play in the National Hockey League (NHL) at PNC Arena and have called Raleigh home since 1997. The organization took no time in making their presence on the league known by winning the Stanley Cup in 2006. Follow their chase for a second when the Canes’ season begins in October. Durham Bulls
The Research Triangle Region’s favorite summer pastime – the Durham Bulls. The Bulls are a Triple-A minor league baseball team and affiliates to the Tampa Bay Rays. With their beautiful stadium in the heart of downtown Durham, they are one of baseball’s most well-known minor league teams thanks to the movie Bull Durham. Carolina Mudcats
The Research Triangle Region spans over 10 counties including the town of Zebulon, home to the Carolina Mudcats. The Mudcats are minor league Single-A affiliates to the Milwaukee Brewers and play from April to September. With their season underway catching a Mudcats game is always great family fun. College Athletics
Outside of professional sports, our region is home to elite college athletics. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, and Duke University are all members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in the NCAA and host numerous top athletes in a variety of sports. Athletic events begin the end of August.
