RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Employment growth rate in IT from 2013 to 2018 was 22 percent. This ranks the Old North State in the No.6 spot across all states.

That’s according to NC TECH’s State of Technology 2020 Industry Report and Tech Directory released today, which provides a snapshot of North Carolina’s tech sector.

The report says there are around 308,070 workers in tech occupations in North Carolina. This is higher than the 266,570 workers employed by the tech industry.

“This means there is a significant portion of tech occupations outside the traditional tech companies in the state,” the report notes.

Other key findings: Across all industries, tech occupations have grown by 24% in the past five years. The average earnings per worker in the technology industry is $119,200.

Around 22 percent of all North Carolina sales revenue generated by the technology industry.

North Carolina remains as the No.1 state for women in the tech sector with 35.5 percent. The state has held the highest state ranking since NC TECH began compiling its report six years ago.

Today, NC TECH is set to hold a briefing to discuss other key findings at the Research Triangle Foundation in RTP at 8.30am.
