CHAPEL HILL — Edtech firm Terra Dotta has experienced unprecedented growth over the last year, says its CEO Anthony Rotoli.

The uptake: it’s going on a hiring spree, with plans to  expand “its workforce by 30 percent.”

“We’re accelerating our hiring across major areas to invest in the company’s continued success,” Rotoli told WRAL TechWire.

The plan is to hire 20-30 people across development, sales, operations and customer success departments. Most positions will be based in Chapel Hill.

“This hiring initiative will help us accommodate increased client demand and drive sustained product innovation across our comprehensive higher education travel, study abroad and international program management solutions,” he said.

Founded in 2001 by Brandon Lee, Terra Dotta offers enterprise-wide cloud solutions and mobile apps to automate and streamline all aspects of global collegiate travel and international student programs.

More than 600 institutional offices — and counting — use its products, including the Medical University of South Carolina, Illinois Institute of Technology, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and University of Vermont.

In 2019, it achieved a 65 percent jump in adoption of its outbound Study Abroad solutions, including Terra Dotta’s AlertTraveler mobile app that automatically notifies students and faculty overseas when there is a critical local incident. It also saw a 33 percent spike for its inbound International Student and Scholar Services solution, and more than 140 percent growth for its Agreements Management solution, the firm said in its release.

“We’ve seen a significant uptick in higher education institutions looking to deliver a globalized education experience to their students across campus,” explained Rotoli.  “As our integrated, cloud-based solutions were designed specifically to address these needs at scale, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in customer demand.”

Last year, it also got  an infusion of $3.4 million in new capital by LNC Partners.

“Our intent is to continue growing Terra Dotta as a leader in this innovative and supportive business community,” he said. “I look forward to collaborating with the area’s top business leaders to further our thriving community.”
