August Events Across Research Triangle Region

August is here, and there is a lot going on in the Research Triangle Region. From 5K’s to local music, mark your calendar for the events you don’t want to miss across our 10 county region.


Chatham County

Pittsboro First Sunday Artisan Fair and Market

August 5th

12:00-5:00 p.m.

This family-friendly event will have live music, food trucks, and dozens of vendors selling art, jewelry, textiles, woodwork, soaps, pottery, and more.


Durham County

The Durham Bulls are in the middle of their Triple-A baseball season and have 10 home games this month. Catching a game in the heart of downtown Durham is a great event for all ages.

Durham County also has plenty of other events this month from open mike nights to a variety of plays and festivals. Check out Durham’s event calendar for more happenings in Durham in August.


Franklin County

Friday Nights on the Tar

August 17th

6:30-9:00 p.m.

A monthly family-friendly night in the middle of downtown Louisburg that is host to live music, food trucks and plenty of games for everyone.

Hill Ridge Farms

August 18th & 19th 10am – 5pm

Free admissions for ages 2-12 with a school supply donation

Farm-themed park boasting animals, an 80-ft. slide & train rides, plus exhibits on old-timey life. A must do in Franklin County!


Granville County

National Day of Play

August 3rd

4:00-9:00 p.m.

Go out and celebrate a whole day of carnival themed entertainment and activities including a magician, stilt walker, face painting, balloon twisters, and many other fun games.


Johnston County

Downtown Smithfield Rhythm and Brews

August 17th

7:00 – 9:30 p.m.

A fun night filled with singing, dancing, games, craft beer, wine, and activities for all ages! Music starts at 7 and there will be drinks provided by Double Barley Brewing, Deep River Brewing Company, SoDoSoPa, and more.


Lee County

Run For Their Lives 5K and 10K

August 25th

8:00 – 11:00 a.m.

The running event takes you through the beautiful Kiwanis Park and historic Sanford to benefit the Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption group. Come out to run with your dog, your friends, or walk the 5K!


Person County

Mayo Lake Catfish Crawl

August 11th

This 5K Mud Run that benefits the Special Olympics and has over 10 obstacles is another fun event for a great cause you will not want to miss out on!

Rock N’ Roll Cruise In: Kids Night

August 17th

6:00 – 8:30 p.m.

A variety of unique vehicles (classic cars, trucks, tricked-out bikes, etc.) will line the courthouse square in Roxboro as guests are invited to “cruise-in” to town to enjoy all that Uptown Roxboro has to offer.


Wake County

42nd Annual Lazy Daze Arts and Crafts Festival

August 25-26th

25th: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.   26th: 12:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival has put local artists and craftsmakers in the spotlight for over 40 years. The festival features more than 300 artists from 16 states, and has live music, food trucks, and a beer garden to create one of the areas most popular yearly events.

North Carolina FC and the North Carolina Courage are also in the middle of their respective soccer seasons. Take a look at their schedules to catch a game to experience the fantastic atmosphere.

Warren County

Adult Color Therapy

August 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29th

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Every Thursday the Warren County Memorial Library hosts a coloring therapy event where anyone is welcome to come relax and color designs made specifically for stress relief. Materials are provided.


Wilson County

1st Friday on the Lawn

August 3rd

6:00-9:00 p.m.

Come out for a free community concert that provides educational experiences and entertainment for all.
